Euroscience Mediterranean Event (ESME)
From earthquake predictions to global warming and from green chemistry to emerging technologies, Euroscience Mediterranean Event 2009-ESME 2009 (15-19 October, 2009-Technopolis, Athens Gazi Industrial Archaeological Park) was the first event to take place in Greece with a focus on the greater Mediterranean Region dedicated to scientific research and innovation.
ESME 2009 overall presented a diverse scientific programme with a focus on climate change, natural disasters, science and innovation policy, science communication, audiovisual sciences and mathematics, featuring experts in the field of science.
Highlights of the event included the side Event “Meet Darwin” organised by the British Council. “Meet Darwin” comprised of a series of inspiring and thought-provoking five-minute science presentations on various aspects of Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, from a group of international young scientists, all winners in the country finals of the British Council’s FameLab Competition.
Another event highlight included the “Web education-Chance to development” Jelly workshop focusing on the developments that technology offers and how knowledge can be connected with the market.
Jelly is actually “a casual work event where everyone’s invited.” It is for anyone who would like to work alongside other creative people in a welcoming environment. During a Jelly workshop, participants bring their laptops and some work and Jelly provides WiFi, a chair and smart people to bounce ideas off and collaborate with.
