Presented by the leading medical publishers Wiley-Blackwell and hosted by the Meyer Children’s Hospital in Florence, “Excellence in Paediatrics” 2009 attracted 680 delegates from 74 countries, offering a cutting-edge scientific programme including more than 80 exciting sessions and 107 presentations.

Over 80 internationally renowned speakers from 20 countries, representing international paediatric centres of excellence participated in the dynamic scientific programme. The topics were selected by a stellar Scientific Committee comprised of the editors of 15 internationally acclaimed paediatric journals and books published by Wiley-Blackwell.

Among the conference highlights was the special event “Evidence Based Medicine and Child Nutrition” jointly organised by the Cochrane Child Health Field and the European Paediatric Association as well as the two sessions organised by the Harvard Medical School & Children’s Hospital: “Paediatric Trauma-An international Healthcare Crisis” & “Paediatric Trauma Care-Application of Principles to Cases”. The conference also featured two significant announcements on “Influenza Pandemic” and “the Environment and Child” following closed meetings among CDC, WHO and the EU with presidents from national and regional paediatric societies.
