An underwater cabinet meeting

Climate change is affecting all aspects of living. In many cases it is affecting living itself, as temperature change and the melting of the polar ice means habitats are affected, draughts threaten crops, livestock and people, fragile coral ecosystems are being wiped out and coastal settlements are in danger of becoming submerged in the not-so-distant future.

The Maldives is a country directly threatened by the rise of the sea levels: as most of its land is only 1,5 m above sea levels, the paradise islands state is already looking for solutions, considering relocation of the entire population and trying to raise awareness and promote action.

On October 17th the country’s cabinet will be convening 6m below sea level in an effort to draw attention to the problem and ask the international community for immediate action in lowering greenhouse emissions ahead of the Copenhagen summit.
